‘Behind the Glass Wall’ Catches Autism on Film

Mumbai, India — Award-winning filmmaker Arunaraje Patil captured the world of children with autism on an 80-minute documentary film entitled “Behind the Glass Wall”.

Originally conceptualized as a short film to be produced for a charity that provides workshops for children on the autism spectrum, “Behind the Glass Wall” was born after Patil observed during her research that a documentary about the children with autism would be more apt.

Produced by Gaahimedia, the film focuses on the issues that children with autism face on a day-to-day basis, together with their families. The documentary aims to change the false yet common notion that autism is a disease. The film is presented in such a way where viewers will be able to see and understand the condition as it is, as well as its effect on the children. Patil observed that although there are a lot of information about autism on different mediums, a lot of people still don’t understand the condition and what it means. She told:

“There are pediatricians who don’t know what autism is, and misguide parents. The education system doesn’t fully support the special needs of such children. They are admitted in regular schools that cause more damage than good. Special educators are few and their training is not what it needs to be.”

“Behind the Glass Wall” will be launched in India on Jan. 9.
